This tutorial is done showing a Photoshop-made, but you can do simple\u00a0photo-based ones, too, of course.<\/p>\n<div>\n<p>What you need:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>photo paper (you can use normal paper, too, though)<\/li>\n<li>good, sharp scissors<\/li>\n<li>colour printer<\/li>\n<li>Xyron machine<\/li>\n<li>magnet\/laminate cartridge for Xyron<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-247\" src=\"http:\/\/helenvader.eu\/blogwp-content\/uploads\/2017\/01\/tutorial-magnets-01-1.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"590\" height=\"443\" srcset=\"https:\/\/helenvader.eu\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/01\/tutorial-magnets-01-1.jpg 590w, https:\/\/helenvader.eu\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/01\/tutorial-magnets-01-1-300x225.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 590px) 100vw, 590px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>I have to say at this place that while I\u2019m absolutely NOT into machines and always prefer\u00a0doing things myself, Xyron is an exception. I never regretted getting it \u2013 depending on what cartridges you get, you can do labels for food containers, stickers, magnets \u2013 you get the picture.<\/p>\n<h4><strong>1. THE DIGITAL PART<\/strong><\/h4>\n<p>Choose whatever picture you want on your magnets. Vacation photos come to mind as the most logical choice, or\u00a0children&#8217;s photos to be placed on grandparents&#8217; fridge. I used a graphic I designed in Photoshop.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>If you&#8217;re just using a photograph, you can skip this part. Just print your photo(s) and go straight to <strong>2. THE MANUAL PART<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<div>\n<p>Now open Photoshop (or whatever software you use) and create a new blank file with the dimensions of the paper you\u2019re going to use. If you live in Europe, it\u2019s A4 (297 x 210 mm), if you live in US it\u2019s going to be Letter (11.5 x 8 in)\u2026 and if there are other formats out there that are used where you live, you use those.<\/p>\n<p>Photoshop makes it really easy as there are presets for these formats \u2013\u00a0<strong>U.S.Paper<\/strong>\u00a0for Letter and\u00a0<strong>International Paper<\/strong>\u00a0for A4. Just take care to set\u00a0your background to\u00a0<strong>transparent.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-248\" src=\"http:\/\/helenvader.eu\/blogwp-content\/uploads\/2017\/01\/tutorial-magnets-02-1.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"590\" height=\"467\" srcset=\"https:\/\/helenvader.eu\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/01\/tutorial-magnets-02-1.jpg 590w, https:\/\/helenvader.eu\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/01\/tutorial-magnets-02-1-300x237.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 590px) 100vw, 590px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Open your files, use CTRL+A to select all and CTRL+C to copy. Move to the blank file and insert by CTRL+V. Insert as many times as you want and move your layers so that you get a printing sheet.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-249\" src=\"http:\/\/helenvader.eu\/blogwp-content\/uploads\/2017\/01\/tutorial-magnets-03-1.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"590\" height=\"332\" srcset=\"https:\/\/helenvader.eu\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/01\/tutorial-magnets-03-1.jpg 590w, https:\/\/helenvader.eu\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/01\/tutorial-magnets-03-1-300x169.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 590px) 100vw, 590px\" \/>]<\/p>\n<p>In case the digital paper you used for your design doesn\u2019t have a clearly defined border after printing (meaning, it\u2019s very light, whitish etc.), it might be wise to create a background layer filled with grey; it will help you to see better where to cut.
